Venue
Institut d'Astrophysiqe de Paris (IAP)
98bis, boulevard Arago
75014 Paris
The venue is the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (www.iap.fr/english)
, which shares a site in the centre of Paris with the Paris Observatory. The IAP website has all necessary information on local transport, hotels, restaurants, etc.
The IAP/Observatory site has several entrance gates. The shortest way to get into the IAP is from the Boulevard Arago: there is a gate just next to the IAP building, with a digital keypad next to it - if you find it locked, push 1232.
See the map at www.iap.fr/images/icones2/plan_iap.gif
All meeting rooms are in the IAP building. The main venue is the big auditorium, and four more rooms have been reserved for smaller sessions.
Registration
On Monday morning, September 4 and on Tuesday morning, September
5, you can register in the entrance hall of the IAP building. Also,
if applicable, you are required to pay cash for the conference dinner
at € 50 per person.
Coffee/tea breaks
The morning and afternoon coffee and tea breaks will be held in the entrance hall of the IAP. Tea, coffee, juice, soft drinks, water and cookies will be served, compliments of the Paris Observatory.
Lunch breaks
Subsidized lunch tickets at € 6 for a three-course lunch at the
Paris Observatory cantine (just around the corner from the IAP)
will be sold each morning in the entrance hall of the IAP, where
the coffee breaks are held. No payment by credit card is possible,
cash only. In practice, this is the only way to get a meal during
the lunch break, as lunch in one of the numerous local restaurants
will take (considerably) longer.
Badges
You are advised to wear your conference badges.
Cocktails
Cocktails will be offered by the Paris Observatory to all participants and guests on Monday, September 4 in the IAP-building.
Conference dinner
The conference dinner on Thursday, September 7 will be held on a cruising restaurant boat that will sail along the Seine through the centre of the City of Lights from its pier close to the Eiffel tower, between 19:45 and 22:45. The event will be organized by Le Capitaine Fracasse (www.lecapitainefracasse.com).
You can pay - in cash only - at registration or until Wednesday noon to the LOC.
Da Vinci Code buffs special
Interested persons can be shown the original Roseline in the historical
Paris Observatory building and the Arago N-S meridian marker, plus
the pit where Foucault first tested his pendulum before going public.
