The Square Kilometre Array has hosted a workshop
on wide-field imaging techniques for radio synthesis arrays, at ASTRON,
Dwingeloo in
the Netherlands on June 22-24, 2005.
The purpose of the workshop was to gather together active workers in
this area with the goal of exchanging knowledge on the state of the
art, and to develop a roadmap for development of wide-field imaging
for the Square Kilometre Array. The emphasis was on techniques at the
fore-front such as full primary beam high dynamic range imaging, rectification
of image plane calibration errors such as antenna pointing and non-isoplanatism,
deconvolution for high dynamic range. Practical experience with existing
arrays was particularly welcomed.
The workshop was great success with many of the local ASTRON and JIVE
scientists joining in the fun unofficially. The contributions including
a summary of the innovation and roadmap discussions, can be viewed
here.
The next workshop in this series will probably be held
in South Africa in 12 - 18 months time.
