1 February 2016, Cape Town, South Africa – Dr Rob Adam was officially welcomed last week as the new SKA South Africa (SKA SA) Project Director, after taking over from Dr Bernie Fanaroff on January 1st.
“I’m very pleased to formally welcome Rob Adam into his role and look forward to working with him to deliver the SKA in South Africa” said Professor Philip Diamond, Director-General of SKA Organisation.
Adam was welcomed at a short ceremony by SKA SA staff members. The event was also used as an opportunity to bid farewell to Dr Bernie Fanaroff as Project Director. He will stay on at SKA SA as a Strategic Advisor to the Director for the next two years.
Dr Adam was previously Group Executive: Nuclear at the Aveng Group. Before that, he served as CEO of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) from 2006 to 2012, and as Director-General of Science and Technology from 1999 to 2006. Dr Adam’s appointment is initially for five years.
